Twenty-four White O’Hara garden roses with ten white stock. Two of the most fragrant flowers we carry in one bouquet — this is the one people notice from the next room. All cream and white, so it depends entirely on texture rather than colour: the packed rose heads against the tall spikes of stock.

24 stems suits a standard cylinder vase. Trim a little off the stems every couple of days as you change the water and it will hold its shape longer.

Caring for garden roses

Garden roses carry many more petals than a standard rose and open into a full cup over two to three days. That is when they look their best. Re-cut the stems at an angle before they go in water, strip any leaves that would sit below the waterline, and change the water every other day. Expect five to seven good days — a little shorter than standard roses, in exchange for a fuller flower.

Caring for stock flowers

Stocks are heavily scented and they drink hard. Change the water every day or two — more often than you would for roses — and re-cut the stems each time. Seven to ten days. Because of the scent they are lovely in a hall or a living room, and a poor choice for a hospital room where other patients share the air.
